AECL leads the Canadian nuclear industry in international sales of nuclear products and services and is the designer of CANDU technology and custodian of the nuclear option for Canada.

AECL's commercial business division designs, markets and manages the construction of nuclear power reactors and research reactors at home and abroad, as well as supplying reactor services to global customers, including innovative nuclear products, design and engineering services, construction management, major reactor refurbishment services, and waste and decommissioning services.

AECL advances Canada's nuclear technology through applied nuclear research and development and is committed to supporting its customers with a wide range of expertise through its nuclear science laboratories and engineering test facilities. AECL also produces a large fraction of the world's supply of medical radioisotopes on behalf of MDS Nordion of Ottawa, Ontario, in its National Research Universal (NRU) reactor at Chalk River Laboratories. This versatile reactor also provides neutron beam facilities to the National Research Council for advanced materials research.
